Former "Three's Company" star Suzanne Somers revealed her battle with breast cancer in 2001. While headlining in Las Vegas, she went for her annual mammogram where a technician found a suspicious mass. It turned out to be a 2.4-centimeter tumor in her right breast. Somers described hearing the words "You have cancer" as a moment of realizing her mortality. She found some humor in the situation, acknowledging her reputation as the "Queen of the Jiggle" on "Three's Company." Somers opted for a lumpectomy to remove the tumor, followed by radiation, but refused chemotherapy despite her doctor's recommendation.

Instead, Somers treated herself with injections of mistletoe extract from Switzerland to boost her immune system. While not approved by the FDA, this alternative medicine is commonly used in Europe. She also decided to revamp her lifestyle, prioritizing sleep, healthy eating, and positive thinking. Somers chose not to have breast reconstruction surgery, instead opting to wear a breast insert.

Throughout her battle, Somers had the support of her husband and business partner, Alan Hamel. The couple has been married since 1977 and Somers still feels a strong connection with him, saying they still turn each other on after 40 years of marriage.
