The Vampire Diaries, a popular TV series, was mainly filmed in Covington, Georgia, although some scenes were shot in other locations as well. One iconic filming location is The Mystic Grill, a real restaurant that fans can visit. The exterior of the restaurant was used for the show, while the interiors were filmed on a sound stage. Another must-visit spot is Scoops, an ice cream shop located in the heart of Covington Square. The Lockwood Mansion, where the werewolf Tyler Lockwood and his family lived, can also be visited. It is actually a combination of two different locations in Covington.

For those interested in staying overnight, Twelve Oaks Bed & Breakfast is worth a visit.

The cast members of The Vampire Diaries often stayed there during production. The Gilbert House, Elena and Jeremy's residence, still stands and can be visited. However, it is a private residence, so visitors should be respectful. Grams' House, Bonnie's grandmother's house, is another interesting stop. The clock tower seen in the show is actually part of the Historic Newton County Courthouse.

While most of the filming locations are in Covington, there are some in other parts of Georgia as well. Oxford College of Emory University doubled as Whitmore College on the show. The fraternity house from The Vampire Diaries season 4 can also be found in Oxford. Finally, the Salvatore Boarding House was filmed in two different locations, one in Langley, British Columbia, and the other in Atlanta, Georgia. However, the Atlanta location has been demolished, so fans can only see sets that have been recreated for studio tours.
