Suzanne Somers, the 74-year-old actress, recently opened up about being fired from the sitcom "Three's Company" in 1984 when she asked for a raise. Somers, who played the character Chrissy Snow, requested to be paid the same amount as her male co-star, John Ritter, but the executives refused to agree.
Reflecting on the incident, Somers stated that she believes she was fired to serve as an example to prevent other women from asking for pay parity. Despite losing her role, Somers found solace in the visibility and popularity she gained from the show. She shared that people from around the world, including Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, recognized and appreciated her work.
However, her departure from the show affected Ritter, who felt upset about losing his sparring partner. Somers compared herself to a "sacrificial lamb" and said that the situation ultimately worked in her favor, teaching her the valuable lesson of finding another opportunity when one door closes. Leaving the show's cast and crew felt like being shunned from a family, especially after being portrayed as greedy by the producers.
She never spoke to anyone from the show again, except for Ritter, who forgave her before his death in 2003.
