Suzanne Somers, known for her beliefs in holistic medicine, fought until her last breath to stay alive after her breast cancer returned earlier this year. She passed away at her home in Palm Springs, California, early Sunday morning, just one day before her 77th birthday. Her beloved husband of nearly 50 years, Alan Hamel, held her hand as she passed away.

 Hamel revealed that Somers tried every available treatment, including alternative, integrative, and Western medicine, to combat the cancer. Despite getting an all-clear at one point, the cancer returned, highlighting its tricky and unpredictable nature.

Hamel, 87, who was ten years older than Somers, expressed his concern about leaving her alone if he passed away first. 

However, Somers ultimately lost her battle with cancer. In the months leading up to her death, she spent seven weeks in a physical therapy clinic in Chicago, where she was recovering from a fall that had broken her neck. Somers fought until her last breath, using every possible form of medicine. Although her family had planned to celebrate her birthday, they are now together, celebrating her life and legacy.

Suzanne Somers, famous for her role in "Three's Company" and her successful endorsements of products like the ThighMaster, was a pioneer in the world of direct-to-consumer infomercials. 

She also authored several books and promoted alternative treatments for cancer and other diseases, which sometimes sparked controversy. Despite her illness, Somers never let on to her friends just how serious her condition was. Her close friend Kari Clark, the widow of Dick Clark, described Somers as a special person and expressed her deep sadness at the loss. Celebrities and friends, including Courteney Cox, paid tribute to Somers, remembering her as a beautiful and influential friend.
