They eventually married in 1977, making it Somers' second marriage and Hamel's second as well. They became business partners in 1990 when they invested in the ThighMaster, a fitness device that became incredibly popular thanks to Somers' enthusiastic infomercials.

They later bought out their partners and took full control of the business.

Somers and Hamel never shied away from discussing their sex life, claiming to have sex at least twice a day. They attributed their active sex life to hormone treatments and joked about their early morning energy. Their openness about their intimate relationship shocked some but showed their deep connection and chemistry.

In 2021, Somers revealed the secrets to their long-lasting marriage, emphasizing the importance of frequent date nights. They would meet at their home bar, sip tequila, listen to music, and sometimes dance.
