A screening of a film depicting the surprise attack on southern Israel by Hamas militants, which was facilitated by Gal Gadot in Los Angeles, was marred by a violent brawl outside the venue on Wednesday night.
Video footage from KABC-TV shows groups clashing outside the Museum of Tolerance, with punches and pepper spray being used. The Los Angeles Police Department arrived at the scene, but there were no arrests. The screening had a heavy security presence, with around 200 people in attendance, including Hollywood executives and officials from the Israel Defense Forces and the United Nations.
The 43-minute film, called "Bearing Witness," contains graphic and violent footage documenting Hamas' atrocities, including footage shot by the group.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass condemned the violence and called for unity. Gadot, who has been vocal about her support for Israel, was not present at the screening. The film's producer husband, Yaron Varsano, and director Guy Nattiv were in attendance.
Gadot's efforts to use her platform to highlight the plight of Israelis taken hostage have garnered praise, but she has faced criticism for not addressing the Palestinian situation directly. In a now-deleted Instagram post, she had called the killing of innocent Palestinians and Israelis horrific, leading to backlash from some critics. The article has been updated to include a statement from the LAPD.
