Beloved actress Betty White made her final on-camera appearance just 10 days before her passing. At the age of 99, White passed away last Friday, leaving behind a remarkable legacy. However, she had previously recorded a message for her fans to be featured in a star-studded film event titled "Betty White: A Celebration," set to be released on her 100th birthday.
Steven Boettcher, the producer and director of the special, shared that White was in excellent spirits while filming her message. Not only was she her usual funny and adorable self, but it was also her idea to record the message. Boettcher emphasized White's sincerity when speaking to her fans, expressing her love and admiration for them.
Boettcher further revealed that White looked amazing during the recording session and was excited about getting dressed up and glammed up for the occasion. Despite White's passing, the film's producers decided to proceed with its release on January 17, which would have been her 100th birthday. They made some changes, renaming the special and adjusting it to reflect the sad news.
"Betty White: A Celebration" will not only showcase White but also feature appearances from her celebrity friends, including Ryan Reynolds, Tina Fey, Robert Redford, Lin Manuel-Miranda, and many more.
Boettcher expressed his closeness with White, having worked on the project with her for the past decade. He described the finished film as a true representation of Betty White. According to Boettcher, celebrating Betty and honoring her memory was the main driving force behind releasing the film as she would have wanted.
Fans can catch "Betty White: A Celebration" in select theaters for one day only on January 17. Ticket information and local theater listings can be found on FathomEvents.com. Stay updated on the latest entertainment news and heartfelt stories by signing up for PEOPLE's free daily newsletter.
