Alan Hamel, the husband of actress Suzanne Somers, gave her a handwritten letter as an early birthday present, just one day before her death at the age of 76. The poem, written in all caps and wrapped in pink peonies, expressed Hamel's love for Somers and his struggle to find words that adequately describe his feelings.
In the letter, Hamel reflected on the various ways he uses the word "love," from describing his family and friends to expressing his appreciation for simple pleasures. However, he concluded that none of these versions of love truly capture his feelings for his wife. After 55 years together, 46 of which were in marriage, Hamel proclaimed that there are no words or actions that can adequately express his love for Somers.
The couple tied the knot in 1977 and shared a blended family, with Somers' son from a previous marriage and Hamel's children. Somers passed away from an aggressive form of breast cancer that she had battled for over 23 years. Her family plans to gather to celebrate her life and a private burial will take place, followed by a memorial service. Suzanne Somers is best remembered for her roles in sitcoms "Three's Company" and "Step by Step." She is survived by her husband, three children, and six grandchildren.
