Supermodel Gigi Hadid has recently opened up about her sister Bella Hadid's battle with Lyme disease. Gigi took to her Instagram Story to clarify a throwback photo she had shared with Bella backstage at a fashion show, where she had captioned it with, "Can't wait 4 the comebaccckkkkkk."
In her post, Gigi explained that Bella had just completed a long and intense treatment for Lyme disease and wanted to make it clear that her previous post should not be seen as a promise that Bella would be back for shows in the next season. Gigi expressed her pride in Bella and her excitement for her comeback whenever she feels ready.
Bella was diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2012, along with her younger brother Anwar and their mom, Yolanda. The symptoms of Lyme disease can include fever, extreme fatigue, joint stiffness, and swollen lymph nodes.
In 2021, Bella gave her followers a glimpse into her life with Lyme disease by sharing pictures of herself receiving IV treatment. She described living with chronic autoimmune disease and always finding time for her IVs.
Gigi also shared her experiences with her family members battling Lyme disease in a 2019 interview with Elle.
Yolanda, Bella and Anwar's mom, previously described the debilitating symptoms of Lyme disease, including severe joint pain, brain fog, and anxiety. She emphasized the constant exhaustion that comes with the disease but also highlighted the importance of pushing through and continuing to live life.
The Hadid family's openness about their experience with Lyme disease helps shed light on the challenges faced by those living with this condition.
