Charithra Chandran, best known for her role as Edwina Sharma in the hit Netflix series Bridgerton, is set to take the lead in the upcoming TV drama Arzu. The series is based on Riva Razdan's novel of the same name, and will be helmed by Bridgerton screenwriter Geetika Lizardi.

Arzu follows the story of a young heiress who escapes a scandal in Mumbai and starts afresh in the high society of New York City. Along the way, she dares to live life on her own terms, risking everything for adventure. The show promises to be a glamorous, romantic, and dramatic portrayal, while fearlessly tackling societal issues.

Expressing her excitement about the new role, Chandran stated in a press release, "I'm thrilled to be a part of a show that encompasses glamour, romance, and drama, while also bravely delving into social dilemmas. Working with Blink49 and Unicorn Island Productions has been a dream, and reuniting with Geetika on this project is an added bonus. I can't wait for the world to see it."

Carolyn Newman, the executive vice-president of global scripted television at Blink49 Studios, shared her enthusiasm, noting that Arzu perfectly embodies the essence of their collaboration with Lilly and Unicorn Island Productions.

Newman also commended Chandran for bringing depth and charisma to the project, and expressed excitement about working alongside Lizardi to adapt this captivating narrative for television.

Lizardi, the showrunner of Arzu, described Riva Razdan's source material as "smart, sexy, and aspirational." She emphasized that Arzu's journey holds personal significance for South Asian women, while also serving as a coming-of-age story with universal appeal.

Fans of Bridgerton can currently enjoy seasons 1 and 2 on Netflix, along with the spin-off series Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. The highly anticipated third season is also on its way.
