Channel 4 has unveiled additional images highlighting the upcoming drama "Big Mood," featuring Nicola Coughlan from "Bridgerton" alongside Lydia West. The six-episode series, set to premiere next year, delves into the friendship between Maggie (Coughlan) and Eddie (West), exploring how their bond evolves as they navigate their post-twenties lives. Created by Camilla Whitehill, "Big Mood" offers a fresh perspective on female friendship, delving into career challenges and mental health struggles. The main story arc centers around Maggie's bipolar disorder, which resurfaces, leading Eddie to question their connection.
Alongside Coughlan and West, the cast of "Big Mood" includes esteemed actors such as Niamh Cusack, Eamon Farren, Luke Fetherston, and Kate Fleetwood. Sally Phillips also stars in the series. Additionally, acclaimed stars from "Derry Girls" and "It's a Sin" are featured. Notably, Joanna Page from the beloved show "Gavin and Stacey" will make a guest appearance as herself.
Rebecca Asher, known for directing popular shows like "Dead to Me" and "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," takes the helm as the director of "Big Mood." The series draws inspiration from Coughlan's personal friendship with creator Camilla Whitehill. The pair met during their time at drama school in Oxford and forged a strong bond. Recounting their early days together, Coughlan shared how they both faced the challenges of a struggling acting career before Whitehill embraced her writing skills.
"When we left drama school, we were both experiencing a period of uncertainty and professional setbacks. She made a decision not to pursue acting and instead focused on writing," Coughlan revealed in an interview with Variety. "I attended her first short play night, and her talent was undeniable. I knew then she was destined to become a celebrated writer."
