Outlander has been renewed for an eighth and final season on Starz, much to the relief of heaving bosoms around the world.
The popular series which focuses on the time travel romance of 20th century heroine Claire, who falls through a hole in time to meet 18th century Scotsman Jamie Fraser, is coming to a close, but not before revealing a satisfying ending.
In a statement, Starz president of original programming, Kathryn Busby said, 'before we close this chapter there is plenty of their passionate story to tell over the course of 26 new episodes.'

Catriona Balfe, 43, who stars as Claire, shared the good news on Instagram, posting a video put together by the production company writing, 'We have BIG news. Bittersweet but also very exciting that we get to continue this journey for an 8th and final season.'
'It's been a gift beyond my wildest dreams,' the Irish beauty continued, 'brought me friendships for life, stretched me as an actor and a person and now we get to give you back one more season and finish it right for all you amazing fans. Thank you for being with us on this magical journey.'
Co-star Sam Heughan, 42, shared the same video on Instagram Stories, writing, 'The incredible journey continues.

The series, based on the books by Diana Gabaldon has been a global hit, winning two BAFTA and two Critics Choice awards among many others.
Season seven, which will be released in the summer is based on the novel A Echo in the Bone.
A new trailer, released in early January has stoked the flames of fans' excitement.

Viewers will be relieved to know the although Claire and Jamie's passionate story is coming to an end, they don't have to say a final farewell to the Fraser family.
A prequel, Outland: Blood of my Blood, focusing on Jamie's parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser has been given the greenlight.
