During Monday's court proceedings in the multimillion-dollar defamation trial between Amber Heard and her ex-husband Johnny Depp, an entertainment industry consultant compared Heard's career to that of other movie stars such as Zendaya and Gal Gadot.
As the trial entered its final week in a Virginia courtroom, expert witness and entertainment industry consultant Kathryn Arnold mentioned Ana De Armas, Jason Momoa, and Chris Pine as well.
Arnold testified that if it weren't for Depp's alleged "smear campaign" against Heard, her career success would be on par with those big names. She referred to statements made by Depp's attorney, Adam Waldman, accusing Heard of orchestrating an "abuse hoax" in a 2020 interview with the Daily Mail.
Arnold pointed to Heard's role in the 2018 film Aquaman as an example of her rise to stardom, calling it a "star-is-born moment." Heard had previously testified that she had to fight to keep her role in the franchise due to negative press surrounding her involvement in her previous libel trial with Depp.
However, Depp's legal team challenged Arnold's assessments during cross-examination, pointing out that the aforementioned actors all had high-profile careers in 2020 when Heard began receiving negative press. The trial, which has attracted significant attention on social media, is scheduled to conclude this week.
